Young mum-of-two fighting for life in coma after hit-and-run | World | News

Ms Edwards and Mr Kennedy were taken to hospital after the incident which happened at around 11.30pm on Saturday night, and the mother-of-two was put in a medically induced coma.

Mr Kennedy was discharged from hospital on Sunday, while his girlfriend is still in intensive care.

He has told Australian media that Ms Edwards is “not in a good state” and has been placed in a “deeper coma with heavier medication”.

He also revealed that he wasn’t working and relying on his savings as he looked after the couple’s children.

A fundraiser has been set up by Mr Kennedy’s sister, Aynsley Rose, to help support the couple, who live in Queensland, Australia.

Writing on the GoFundMe page, she said: “Cooper and Jamie were rushed to the hospital for treatment, where Jamie was also put into a medically induced coma due to the extent of her injuries.

“To this day, Jamie remains in the intensive care unit at Princess Alexandra Hospital with her family sitting by her side, hoping for improvement.

“She remains in an induced coma with extensive injuries, that will require lengthy rehabilitation.

“During this tragic and unfathomable time, we are seeking assistance from the community to help cover the on-going medical/ rehabilitation costs.

“Any donations made will also help provide Cooper, Jamie and their two children with much needed support.”

Mr Kennedy’s mum Jacqui says the family’s focus is now on Jamie pulling through and providing support to help them deal with what happened.

She told the 7 News TV station: “She’s a good mum and she’s needed and she’s loved.

“It’s just devastating and it’s just so unnecessary. Something like this, it’s just horrific.

“Everybody is suffering.”

Police arrested 34-year-old Joseph Peter Pritchard in connection with the incident and he has been charged with two counts of attempted murder.

Mail Online reports that he appeared at the magistrates’ court in Cleveland, Australia, via videolink on Wednesday.

He did not apply for bail and his case has been adjourned until May.
