Areas with metro mayors and the next top 10 largest urban areas by population in England as well as councils in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have been offered cash by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to set up screens allowing thousands of people to congregate for the celebrations. Each local authority can decide whether to put the funding towards one big gathering place or a number of smaller screening sites.

Confirmed sites showing the ceremony on Saturday, May 6 include Cardiff Castle, Belfast City Hall, Piece Hall in Halifax, Jubilee Square in Brighton and Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester.

Some screens will also show the Coronation Concert live from Windsor Castle on Sunday, May 7.

Many councils are expected to host celebratory Coronation events over the weekend including cultural festivals, live music, community workshops, art showcases and creative games and competitions.

Tens of thousands of Coronation Big Lunches and street parties will also be held and on Monday May 8 the Big Help Out will see thousands of people volunteering to support causes.
